A Life Set Apart, Only for God
Four letters. One instruction: stop borrowing your identity from whoever's loudest today.
Come out from among unbelievers, and separate yourselves from them, says the Lord. Don't touch their filthy things, and I will welcome you. And I will be your Father, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.
Influence rarely knocks. It doesn't announce itself as good or bad — it arrives slow. A song you've heard enough times to stop noticing the lyrics. A joke that used to make you wince and barely registers now. A feed that decides, one scroll at a time, what feels normal. By the time you notice, it's already decided things for you.
Who has the most say over who you're becoming? Scripture spells out an answer — A Life Set Apart, Only for God. A.L.S.O.
Avoid Bad Influence
Scripture doesn't tell you to hate the people around you — it tells you to notice what they're doing to you. “Bad company corrupts good character” (1 Corinthians 15:33), and proximity works on you whether you notice it or not — “a companion of fools suffers harm” (Proverbs 13:20). Influence isn't only people, either — pain, rejection, and bitterness can bond you to the wrong things just as fast as a bad friend group. Ask the honest question: is your circle making you more like Christ, or more comfortable with the world? If the answer stings, that's information. Be courageous enough to create distance.
Listen to What You Let In
“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it” (Proverbs 4:23). What enters through your eyes and ears eventually finds its way into your heart — music, videos, conversations, a feed you scroll without thinking. None of it announces what it's training you to accept. Ask what a song is teaching you to celebrate, what a show is making you comfortable with, what your thoughts have started drifting toward without you deciding to let them. “Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure” (Philippians 4:8). Just because something doesn't make you act differently today doesn't mean it isn't shaping how you think. If Jesus sat down next to you mid-scroll, would you feel at ease?
Stand Against What Destroys You
“You were bought at a price. Therefore glorify God in your body” (1 Corinthians 6:20). The world calls destructive choices a normal part of growing up — everybody does it, nobody will know. But destruction rarely only comes in a bottle, a pill, or a bed you shouldn't be in. Just as often it comes through bitterness, approval-addiction, and relationships that cost more than they give. “Run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts. Instead, pursue righteous living” (2 Timothy 2:22). Don't trade a God-given future for a temporary high, a temporary acceptance, or a temporary pleasure.
Offer Your Whole Life to Jesus
Being set apart was never only about what you refuse. It's about who you belong to and who you represent. “I plead with you to give your bodies to God… a living and holy sacrifice” (Romans 12:1) — words, attitude, friendships, private life, all of it. If the world has already gotten its hooks into you, that isn't a reason to hide; it's the invitation. “You must be holy because I am holy” (1 Peter 1:15–16). The world has a voice. Your friends have a voice. Your feed has a voice. Jesus has one too — and His is supposed to be the loudest.
You'll face a hundred situations Scripture never names directly. That's not an oversight — it's room He gave you on purpose. A.L.S.O. was never a fence built to keep you small. It's an anchor built to keep you His.

A Question for Today
- Who has the most influence over who you're becoming — and is it pulling you closer to Christ or further away?
- What's one thing you keep consuming that you'd feel uneasy explaining to Jesus?
- What's one part of your life you've offered to everyone except Him?
Father, show me what — and who — I've let shape me without asking You first. Where I've grown comfortable with what should still bother me, wake me back up. Where I've guarded everything except my heart, guard it for me now. Make my whole life an offering, not just the parts that are easy to give. In Jesus' name, Amen.
