The Day You've Been Waiting For.
It's not a day to dread.
It's a day to look forward to — with everything you have.
The world is not getting better at hiding its brokenness. You can feel it — in the news, in conversations, in the quiet moments when you're honest enough to admit that something is deeply wrong with the way things are. Injustice goes unpunished. The innocent suffer. Evil seems to move freely while good people grow tired of waiting for things to change.
If you've ever felt that weight, the Bible has a word for you. Not a platitude. Not a motivational phrase. A promise backed by the character of God Himself: this is not how the story ends.
There is a day coming — Scripture calls it the Day of the Lord — when God will fully step into human history. Not to abandon the world, but to set it right. And for everyone who is in Christ, that day is not something to dread. It is the day you have been waiting for your entire life, whether you knew it or not.
Every Wrong Will Be Made Right.
One of the hardest things about living with faith in a broken world is watching injustice go unanswered. You pray. You wait. And sometimes it seems like evil wins. But Psalm 96:11–13 paints a picture that should stop you in your tracks — all of creation, from the sea to the forests, erupting in joy because God is coming to judge the earth in righteousness and faithfulness.
Not cruelty. Not revenge. Righteousness. God's justice is not like ours — clouded by emotion, limited by information, capable of error. His judgment is perfect because He sees everything, knows everything, and answers to no one. Isaiah 34:8 calls it a day of vengeance — but for the people of God, it is the day the scales finally balance. Every tear cried in silence. Every prayer that felt unanswered. Every injustice endured. God keeps the record, and He will settle it.
Zephaniah 1:14 · New International Version · BibleGateway ↗
The great day of the Lord is near — near and coming quickly. The cry on the day of the Lord is bitter; the Mighty Warrior shouts his battle cry.
The Mighty Warrior shouts His battle cry — not against you, but for you. That is the posture of God toward everyone who is in Christ on that day. Not a judge waiting to condemn, but a warrior fighting on your behalf.
Everything Broken Will Be Made New.
The Day of the Lord is not just about ending what is wrong. It is about beginning what is right — permanently. Revelation 21:3–4 describes it with a detail so specific it reaches into every grief you have ever carried: He will wipe every tear from their eyes. Not most tears. Not the ones He deems significant enough. Every tear. Every loss. Every disappointment. Every night you cried and didn't know why. God knows, and He is coming to wipe it clean.
And this restoration isn't only for you. Romans 8:19 says that all of creation is waiting — with eager expectation — for that day. The whole world is groaning under the weight of brokenness, longing for what only God can bring. That ache you feel when the world seems too heavy? That is not hopelessness. That is the right response to a world that was made for something better and knows it.
Every Promise Will Be Fulfilled.
The Day of the Lord is the moment when everything God has ever said becomes undeniably visible. Every promise He made — about salvation, about eternal life, about being with Him forever — comes to completion on that day. 2 Peter 3:13 calls it new heavens and a new earth where righteousness dwells. Not visits. Dwells. A permanent state where things are finally the way they were always meant to be.
And 1 Thessalonians 4:16–17 gives us the picture: the Lord Himself descends, the trumpet sounds, the dead in Christ rise first, and then those who remain are caught up together with them — and we will be with the Lord forever. Not for a season. Not until something changes. Forever.
This is why 1 Thessalonians 5:9 is one of the most grounding verses in all of Scripture: God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. You are not waiting for punishment. You are waiting for rescue. You are not dreading that day — you are supposed to be leaning toward it.
1 Thessalonians 5:9 · New International Version · BibleGateway ↗
For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us so that whether we are awake or asleep we might live with him.
So how do you wait for a day like that? The same way you've always been called to wait on God — with courage, with trust, with your eyes fixed on what is coming rather than what surrounds you right now. Psalm 27:14 says it plainly: Wait for the Lord. Be strong and let your heart take courage. Wait for the Lord. Not passive waiting. Courageous waiting. The kind that keeps walking, keeps trusting, keeps hoping — because the One who made the promise is the One who always keeps it.
A Few Questions to Sit With
- When you think about the Day of the Lord, what is your honest first reaction — fear, hope, or something in between? What does that reaction tell you about where your trust actually is right now?
- Is there an injustice in your life — something you've prayed about and haven't seen resolved — that you need to release back to God's perfect justice today? What would it look like to genuinely trust Him with it?
- What would change about how you live this week if you truly believed — not just intellectually, but in your gut — that you are not destined for wrath but for salvation, and that the best is still ahead?
Father, thank You that the story doesn't end here. Thank You that every injustice we've carried, every tear we've cried, every night we've wondered if You were still in control — none of it is the final word. Help us to wait with courage. Help us to live like people who know what's coming — not with fear, but with the settled confidence of those who belong to You. We are not waiting for wrath. We are waiting for You. Come, Lord Jesus. In His name, amen.
